American produces a broad line of competition landing mats designed to meet the technical specifications set out by different gymnastics governing bodies, which include the Federation International de Gymnastique (FIG), USA Gymnastics (USAG), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Governing bodies often have different landing mat specifications for women’s and men’s apparatus used in the gymnastics competitions that they sanction. You should take this into consideration when purchasing landing mats for your program. Gymnastics governing bodies authorize the use of supplemental landing mats, which can be placed on top of the principal landing mats for added protection. As you will see in the following pages, American Athletic has a wide selection of supplemental landing mats. We recommend that you contact your governing body to verify which supplemental mats are approved.

Governing bodies meet at different times to revise their equipment and landing mat specifications. While we make every effort to include the latest specifications in our catalogs, we recommend that you obtain current information from your governing body when purchasing equipment and mats.

FIG OFFICIAL COMPETITION LANDING MATS

The FIG requires that all principal landing mats be 18-20 cm thick, except for the landing mats for the pommel horse event, which must be 10 cm thick. The FIG also allows the use of a variety of supplemental landing mats that can be placed on top of its principal landing mats. To be approved for FIG competitions, landing mats must also meet compression and stability requirements. American Athletic’s mats have been approved for use in FIG sanctioned competitions.

Our FIG landing mats contain a combination of polyethylene and polyurethane foams, which are covered with an 18 ounce knife coated vinyl fabric in any of our 14 standard colors. There is no extra charge for selecting any of these 14 standard colors on American landing mats. Velcro fasteners are 4 inches (104 mm) wide and configured V2 or V4. The following table sets out the American Athletic landing mats that are used with each apparatus.
