American Athletic now offers the widest selection of wainscoting on the market, with five models to choose from to meet the requirements of a wide variety of installations. Some are best suited for light protection and softness, while others are aimed at providing maximum shock attenuation for high impact situations.
The buyer of wainscoting should consider three things when selecting wainscoting: (1) protection against injury, (2) appearance and durability, and (3) fire retardation.
Protection Against Injury - The primary purpose of wainscoting is to protect people against a shock injury to the body should they fall or run against a rigid wall surface. This kind of protection is called shock attenuation, sometimes referred to as shock absorption.
|
Wainscoting should be selected on the basis of what kind of activities are going to be conducted in the area and what size person is likely to fall or run against it and with what force. For example, day care centers for children usually select lighter and softer wainscoting than do martial arts or basketball coaches.
Durability and Appearance - Wainscoting is installed on the walls of a structure. The cost of installation is high, so the product should be very durable in order to avoid the need to replace it for as long as possible.
Fire Retardation - Wainscoting is installed to and becomes part of the structure of a building. Therefore, it must meet the building codes for fire retardation. This means that the vinyl covers on the panels must contain a fire retardant in order to meet these codes.
ELITE Wainscoting for Maximum Shock Attenuation Model EW- 2.0

This model is filled with two-inch thick (52 mm) closed cell polyethylene foam which has the best shock attenuation rating in our line. It will absorb or dissipate a tremendous amount of shock when struck at high velocity by a large person. The foam is firm and will keep its trim shape for years, even with very heavy use. The wood back panels and the vinyl fabric covers are the same as used in all American Athletic wainscoting.
